This license is between Wren Foundry and you for the Tintstep Chrome extension. Wren Foundry operates Tintstep. Tintstep is a product of Wren Foundry. The website, an account, and a paid subscription are covered by the Terms of Service and the Subscription Terms. If this license and the Terms conflict on local software use, this license controls. If they conflict on an account or a fee, the Terms control. The liability cap in section 7 and the cap in the Terms are one cap, not two.
1. Grant
Wren Foundry grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and run the extension, in object-code form, on computers you use. You may install it from the Chrome Web Store listing Wren Foundry publishes, or from a package Wren Foundry gives you.
The license is free for the free tools. Those tools include copying a color, a scan, contrast, and downloads. The two Pro files, a computed-style file for a selected element and a page report for a scan, require an active Pro entitlement on an account you connect.
The extension runs in Chrome, version 116 or newer, on a desktop computer. It does not run in another browser.
2. What the extension is allowed to do
The extension reads computed styles on a page when you invoke it. That access is for the invocation. The extension does not request a standing permission to read every site. Storage on the device holds the current inspection until you leave the page, and it holds a license token and display preferences until you remove them. Clipboard access writes a value when you press Copy. Downloads saves an asset that is already on the page, through Chrome's download manager. The side panel shows the inspection beside the page.
The extension's network permission is limited to the Tintstep site. It is used to connect a license. That request does not include the page URL, the CSS, or the copied color.
3. Limits
You will not reverse engineer the extension except to the extent a non-waivable law allows. You will not rent, sell, or sublicense the extension. You will not remove a copyright or license notice. You will not use the Tintstep name or mark to imply that Wren Foundry made a page you inspected, or to imply that Google made Tintstep.
You may modify a local copy for your own use. A modified copy is not entitled to support. You will not circumvent the entitlement check that gates the two Pro files. Those files require an active Pro entitlement.
You will not send page styles to the Tintstep license service. The service rejects that use.
4. Updates
Chrome may update the extension. An update can change the free tools as the Terms of Service describe. A Pro feature you paid for during the current period keeps working for that period, or Wren Foundry follows the refund rule in section 1 of the Terms of Service.
5. Open components
The extension's own code is not offered under an open-source license unless a file in the package says so. Third-party notices, if a release includes third-party code, ship in the package.
6. Your pages and your files
The extension processes page styles on your device, as the Privacy Policy describes. This license does not give Wren Foundry ownership of the pages you inspect or of the values you copy. Files you export are yours.
7. Disclaimer and liability
The extension is a reading tool. A contrast figure is a calculation on the colors the scan could read. It is not a certification that a page meets WCAG. The warranty disclaimer and the liability limit in sections 12 and 13 of the Terms of Service apply to the extension. If you have not agreed to the Terms of Service, the extension is still provided "as is," and Wren Foundry's total liability arising out of the extension in a twelve-month period is the amount you paid for Pro in that period, or 50 USD if you paid nothing, to the extent the law allows. That limit does not apply to liability the law does not allow to be limited.
8. Chrome Web Store
Your use of the Chrome Web Store is also subject to Google's terms. Google is not a party to this license and does not provide support for the extension. Support is the contact path in the Terms of Service. The store listing and the Privacy Policy carry the data disclosure for the extension. Page styles stay on the device. Wren Foundry does not sell them and does not use them for advertising.
9. Termination
This license ends if you uninstall the extension, or if Wren Foundry ends it for a material breach that you do not cure within 15 days after notice, where notice is possible. Sections 3, 5, 6, and 7 survive. Ending this license does not by itself end a paid period. Cancellation is handled in the Subscription Terms. Uninstalling the extension clears its local storage through Chrome.
